Spybot Search & Destroy
What is Spyware?
Spyware quietly tracks your online behavior and makes a
marketing file of you that is sent without your
permission to the compilers. This information is then
sold to companies that advertise. You may notice
different toolbars on your browser that you did not
install. You could have problems with your browser
crashing or your home page can be changed (hijacked)
without your permission. If you have any of these things
happening to your system you most likely have spyware on
your computer. You may have spyware without seeing any
of the symptoms mentioned so it is a good idea to have
your system scanned. There is a free spyware program you
can get to keep your system free of it.
How To Get a Free Spyware Utility
Spybot – Search & Destroy finds and gets rid of spyware.
You can download it from here:

Download
When you open this page you will see an area to donate
for the use of this free program – it is up to you; you
do not have to donate to download. Below this area you
will see various program download sites listed. Click on
the “Download” for Spybot – Search & Destroy to begin
the download procedure.
This will take you to another page with all of the
possible download sites – choose one and click on the
“Download here” button. To start the download you will
have to click on “Run” in the File Download – Security
Warning box.
Installation
You will then see the program being downloaded. When it
finishes you will have to select “Run” again to install
it. Select the language you want and click on “OK”. A
Setup Wizard will appear to complete the installation.
Click on the “Next” button to install. You will have to
read and accept the License Agreement and click on
“Next”. You can keep all of the default settings (or if
you want – make changes to any of them along the way) by
click on the “Next” button through the Setup Wizard. It
will be installed on your system. You will see this
process in a File Download and Setup window. If the
wizard does not automatically run the program, click on
the icon to open it.
First Run
When you open the program for the first time you will
see a Wizard that will assist you through the process.
You will be able to put in or take out any icons you did
or didn’t create during the install.
If you use a proxy in Internet Explorer you will be
shown it and you will be able to also allow Spybot –
Search & Destroy to use it. If the field for the text is
blank then you don’t need to worry about it. If it shows
an address in the text area you need to import the proxy
settings.
